Vascular ultrasound is a useful way of evaluating the body’s circulation. Sound waves are reflected off of arteries and veins to monitor the blood flow to organs and tissues in the body. Vascular ultrasound can help the doctors evaluate blockages to blood flow, such as clots in veins and plaque in arteries. Vascular ultrasound can also be helpful following corrective procedures such as arterial bypass surgery and angioplasty. Most examinations take 30 to 45 minutes and no preparation is needed.
